Uttar Pradesh government has shortlisted GMR Infrastructure Limited, GVK Power & Infrastructure Limited (GVKPIL), Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) and Gammon India Limited for the proposed Kushinagar international airport project located on the East-West Corridor. The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Development Department is seeking financial proposals from the companies on March 04, 2010.

While the department is already in talks with the Air Force, home, finance and civil aviation ministries for the required clearances, it has already been recommended by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and by the Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Meanwhile, the state government has released a Rs 156 crore loan for acquiring 550 acre land needed for the airport.
