Madhya Pradesh is preparing plans to become self-sufficient in power and joining the league of its prosperous neighbours Maharashtra and Gujarat. MP, which has been reeling under severe power shortage for several years, will have power surplus by the end of 2012. The state is also planning to export power to other under-privileged states from 2012. The State chief minister has promised single- window and speedy clearances for investors in the state. Currently, 13 power projects are under different stages of implementation which are slated to commissioning by 2012 and would make MP power surplus.
The major private players in MP are Reliance Power, Essar Power and Jaiprakash Associates etc.The state is second in the country to bagged a 3,960 mw ultra mega power project (UMPP), being built by Reliance Power in Sasan. |
