Gopalpur Ports Ltd (GPL) has decided to double its cargo handling facility in the next shipment season of the port, which will begin in October 2011. The seasonal port will be developed to an all-weather and major port and the first phase of the expansion is estimated to cost Rs 848.8 crore. In the first phase, GPL will set up the breakwaters, berths along with associated material handling facilities like stockyards, warehouses and railway infrastructure. The company expects to commission the new facility within the next two years.
