"State governments should allocate land at competitive prices for the viability of the terminal market complexes," says PK Swain, Director - Marketing, Union Ministry of Agriculture. He adds, "The location is vital for terminal market complexes as they need to be well-connected between production and consuming centres."
Work on complexes in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Bihar have been initiated. Tamil Nadu government had decided to lease 40 acres land adjacent to National Highway (NH) 47 in the Sipcot industrial estate in Perundurai for Rs 15 lakh an acre while the market cost is around Rs 60 lakh an acre.
