Bangladesh cabinet has cleared the proposed power exchange deal with India. The deal will allow import and export of electricity amounting to about 900 million unit per annum. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed soon.
The project cost is estimated at around $200 million and the proposal also carries an option to purchase power from both public and private sectors of India The Bangladesh government is also planning to set up nine power projects and a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal worth $5 billion. Indian government's plans, to add 180,000 MW by 2017, are encouraging Bangladesh to source power and attract private sector players to that country.
