Teracom Ltd has won a contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), worth Rs 104 crore, for enabling a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) Network based on Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) technology.

GEPON is an optical fibre cable access technology for delivering broadband services of high-capacity. It gives carriers plenty of capacity to deploy IP video services as well as leaves room for services such as high-definition television.

The technology will compete with existing wire line broadband systems and promises to offer 100 times more speed.
