Three greenfield airports planned in the northeastern states have been approved by the civil aviation ministry. Of these, construction has already started on the Pakyong airport in Sikkim worth Rs 264 crore. The other two will come up at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh and Cheitu in Nagaland. The airport in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to be ready by March 2012. It will be implemented by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The development of Tezu airport in Arunachal Pradesh, at a cost of Rs 79 crore, has been approved during 2009-10.
