Various industries have evinced interest to set up captive power plants in Tamil Nadu. The state government has received proposals worth over Rs 4,100 crore for the same. The proposals came largely from manufacturing units, especially cement, in the southern parts of the state. The proposals received by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) featured an aggregate capacity of 708.5 MW. This does not include non-conventional energy.
At present, the state has an installed capacity of 1,028 MW in conventional captive plants.
