Innovation with adequate R&D is a key growth drive

- Raj Lakhani, Managing Director, PERI (India)

Infrastructure development is the need of the hour for the Indian economy - be it roads, railways, metro-rail, airports or affordable housing. PERI (India) sees ample opportunity in this sector for formwork and scaffolding industry.

'With affordable housing getting infrastructure status, we see a lot of investment moving in that direction, which will amplify growth potential for the industry,' says Raj Lakhani, Managing Director, PERI (India). 'In 2017, PERI India celebrated its 10th anniversary. Innovation supported by adequate R&D is a key driver for our growth. With landmark projects such as Mahatma Mandir, the Statue of Unity, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Hyderabad Metro, using our state-of-art formwork and scaffolding system, we have proved our mettle in delivering customised solutions for every complex need in a cost-effective manner.' He shares more..

What factors are driving growth for the formwork and scaffolding industry at present?
In today's changing business environment, innovation and adoption of modern construction technology is the key. Modern construction demands technologies that are faster, safe and innovative. With the implementation of RERA and government impetus on infrastructure, there is streamlining in construction methodology and a rush to complete projects in time over launching new projects. Also, with the rapid growth of urbanisation and focus on infrastructure sector including affordable housing, there is immense growth for the formwork and scaffolding industry.

Elaborate on your offerings in the supported formwork and scaffolding sector.
For nearly 50 years, PERI products and systems have successfully proved themselves in the market globally. Today, PERI India offers a wide range of solutions for wall, column and slab formwork, climbing formwork, scaffolding system and components associated with it for daily use on construction sites. We will continue to set standards and offer innovative solutions for the industry.

What are your offerings in terms of avoiding scaffold-related accidents at site?
Safety is at core of PERI values. Up to 90 per cent of formwork and scaffolding in India is still conventional and traditional, which is not the scenario globally. At PERI, we have taken initiatives to educate the construction industry to adopt system formwork and scaffolding. As far as scaffolding is concerned, we use PERI patented gravity lock technology, which is the safest among all technologies available in India.

Tell us about your recently launched products.
In the infrastructure sector, PERI India has recently launched ALPHAKIT, which is an engineering construction kit for various applications like bridges, TG sections, cantilever beams and slabs. PERI DUO, another universal application formwork system (single system for walls, foundations, columns and slabs), was launched in India; the product has been a big hit since then as it is seen as a potential replacement for the conventional formwork. It is ergonomic in all aspects - time, labour, cost-saving along with high flexibility as the major advantage end-users have. Being a lightweight formwork system, it is crane independent and has intuitive application.
