No commercial operations in northeast: Pawan Hans

Pawan Hans Helicopters Limited (PHHL), the state-run helicopter company has announced the suspension of commercial operations in northeast after a chopper of the company carrying Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu went missing couple of days ago.

According to an official, the suspension may be on temporary basis as other helicopters are engaged in searching for the missing one. The chopper that went missing was new and acquired in mid-2010; it had a valid certificate of airworthiness from DGCA and there were no discrepancies in regard to its maintenance, added the official.

While detailing about the pilots, PHHL officials revealed that Captain J S Babbar and Captain T S Mamik were highly qualified professionals, who had more than 3,000 hours of flying experience, especially in hilly areas.

The company has also set up a control room to monitor and execute the search operation in the best possible manner.
