Government make green audit compulsory for big projects

For all the big projects coming in the country, it would be compulsory to include environmental compliance in their corporate audits and report deviation to the company board of directors as well as public, The Environment Ministry announced. Government said that without putting a Corporate Environment Policy down, no project would be approved and companies will have to report all the deviation to the board every year.

The new obligation will be applied on all the central public sector units, coal-based thermal power plants above 500 megawatts, integrated steel plants above one million tonne per annum, cement plants above three mtpa capacity and petroleum refining industry.

An official revealed that when government realized environmental harm of Jindal power plant, it decided to come up with the policy.
