J&K's Rs 69.5 cr drainage project goes on stream

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a Rs 69.50 core Rawalpora-Tengpora Storm Water Drainage Scheme recently at Srinagar.

During the event, Omar said the state government focuses on creating better drainage and sewerage systems besides improving and expanding road communication networks.

He also said that “comprehensive City development looms large in the government policy” and attention has been given to upgrade basic amenities and address urban problems in twin capitals of Srinagar and Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) implemented the Rawalpora-Tengpora Storm Water Drainage Scheme which is one of the major drainage packages to be completed under the urban component of ongoing multi-sector Project for Infrastructure Rehabilitation funded by Asian Development Bank.

The scheme involved construction 23.50 km of storm water drainage network spread over an area of 3.50 sq kms consisting of 18.60 km of sub-main drain, 3.26 km of trunk drain, 1.6 km of Main drain and pumping station near Tengpora bridge having the discharge capacity of 68 cusecs during storm conditions, an official handout said.
