Chandigarh seeks more funds from centre

For 2013-14, the Union Territory administration of Chandigarh wants the central government to allocate Rs 500 crore more under non-pan category.

The administration feels that the allocation of funds by the centre was not sufficient last year. In this regard, it asked all its departments to submit their plans for the year and requirements regarding the budget allocation in the ensuing fiscal year.

The administration received Rs 2,916.01 crore for 2012-13 from the central government. Under the plan head, the UT Administration was allocated Rs 737.23 crore, whereas under the non-plan head, the Administration was allocated Rs 2,178.78 crore.

This includes Rs 246 crore under the urban development head for state capital projects, JNNURM schemes, work at the Punjab and Haryana High Court complex, basic amenities for economically weaker sections, solid waste management and allied activities and other administrative work.

For the medical and health services, the UT Administration had received Rs 87.69 crore for medical education and research, the trauma hospital, the mental health institute and for the government institute for mentally challenged children.
