SDA prepares master plan for Srinagar

Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) prepared a draft Master Plan (2000-2021) for Srinagar City which proposes to develop satellite towns as Ganderbal (Education Town), Budgam (Commercial and Hotel Zone) in order to decongest the city.

Among other towns, the plan proposes to develop Pampore into a transportation hub, Khrew into a agro based Industrial hub or agro-tourism, Zabarwan Range into a tourism hub.

SDA is learnt to have meticulously drafted the plan to enable the city to cater to futuristic demands of housing, agriculture, tourism and other aspects in next eight years.

The plan also aims to conserve the man-made and natural heritage of Srinagar, restore its past glory and decentralize the population and activities, promote economy and employment in order to make the entire development sustainable.

The plan proposes to reserve nearly 331 sq.kms of total area of city’s 757 sq-kms for agricultural purposes, 80.32 sq kms for water bodies, 6.62 for forests respectively.
