France, India to collaborate on urban infra sector

A high-level team of French senators which visited French plants in Chennai recently said the country was interested in investing in sectors connected with urban development backed by collaborative exchange in research and education.

Francois Marc, senator from Finistere informed that companies in the European country had some knowledge and experience in sectors like transportation, water processing, energy, waste management, roads and highways apart from defense and space technology.

In sectors where French companies are already present, like energy or water processing, the country can invest more, he added.

The senator, however, informed that the actual investments in India will be backed by research and academic relationships between the two countries.

Investments can grow more if both the countries can develop academic and research relations and to that end it is working towards more exchange between students and developmental research, said Marc.

The delegation - focused on studying institutional relationship between India and France - comprises four senators.

Apart from Marc there is Gerard Cesar, senator from Gironde,Valerie Letard, senator from Nord and Patricia Schillinger, senator from Haut-Rhin. As part of its agenda to meet local governments apart from the central political leadership, the team will call on Puducherry's Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh and Chief Minister Rangasamy.
