Kochi civic body wants govt to reconsider decision

Kochi Municipal Corporation would urge Kerala government to reconsider its decision to cut short the maintenance fund and the final installment of the Plan Fund to the civic body.

The state government recently decided to reduce the Plan Fund allocation as it has to provide funds for the corporation to acquire land for the proposed sewerage treatment plant.

If the government does not reconsider the decision, the civic body would not receive Rs 2.5 crore, the final allotment. Among this nearly Rs 2 crore is reduced from the general fund while the remaining Rs 50 lakh will be deducted from the SC or ST Fund.

The civic body feels that the decision of the state government would affect the development activities undertaken by the Corporation.

Earlier, the state government had cut short the eight instalments from the maintenance fund. Nearly Rs 4 crore was supposed to be allotted under the maintenance fund.

Another issue is that the Corporation had to finish all the works under the Plan Fund before March 31. The fund allocation is usually done on the basis of the total work carried out and the funds utilised.
