Airport Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of developing new airports and upgrading the infrastructure of existing airports in the country. As part of this effort, it is developing three non-operational airports in the north east and it also decided to convert the old terminal building in Raipur airport into air cargo centre.

The authority will develop the airport at Daparizo in Arunachal Pradesh, Tura in Meghalaya and Kamalpur in Tripura for operating ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft to connect the remote hill areas of the north east region.

Meanwhile, the authority intends to engage a contractor for the development of Ajmer airport (in Kishangarh, Rajasthan). The project includes construction of runway, apron, isolation bay, link taxi tracks, perimeter roads and other allied works.
