GHB to build houses for people

In the next two-three years, the state-run Goa Housing Board (GHB) plans to build 4,000-5,000 houses and flats and by December construction on the project would begin.

This information was given by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The state government decided to build homes for common man considering that the rising prices of real estate has made it difficult for them to find a piece of land within his means.

Land prices of residential as well as commercial have risen in developed urban areas like Panjim, Mapusa, Ponda, Vasco and Margao and also coastal belts. But buying a piece of land even in any remote village of the state is not a cheap deal any more, reports indicate.

Parrikar blamed real estate developers and builders saying they are charging exorbitant rates. The cost of land including development cost is Rs 25,000 per sq m in a area like Porvorim but builders charge Rs 50,000 per sq m, he said while sounding warning that his government will not tolerate irregularities of the builders.
