Centre finalises Rs 2,000-cr budget for Puducherry

For Puducherry's annual budget plan for 2013-14 the Union government finalised at Rs 2,000 crore on June 27. The outlay includes Central assistance of about Rs 783 crore, in addition to about Rs 100 crore for Centrally-sponsored schemes. The Plan size was finalised at a meeting in Delhi between Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister of Puducherry N Rangasamy.

Rangasamy, while briefing the Commission on its Plan performance, said during the current fiscal, both tax and non-tax revenue is expected to grow by 24 per cent. He said the new initiatives proposed for the year include around 200 projects in public-private partnerships (PPPs) at an estimated cost of Rs 2,000 crore. Ahluwalia said a proposal for restructuring the schemes had been approved by the Union Government to allow flexibility in the guidelines.

He said that he would be writing to all Chief Ministers shortly to communicate this decision and request them to come forward with the flexibilities that they considered essential for better implementation of these schemes.
