Districts in Nagaland to get satellite model towns

In order to control migration of rural people to cities and thereby prevent congestion in urban areas, the Nagaland government plans to create satellite model towns in all district headquarters.

Kohima and Dimapur are said to be congested because of migration of people from rural areas. The proposed satellite model towns are intended to provide an alternative to people of the interior districts to look for better avenues in their respective districts instead of migrating to urban areas especially these two cities.

The state government would develop satellite towns at Kohima and Dimapur on priority basis. It would take all the other 17 townships in the state in a phased manner for development.

The state urban development department is preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPR) under Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) for Dimapur and Kohima.

The existing cities do not have scope of expansion but can only be added with facilities while the drainage and roads lack proper planning. The state government feels the need to create new city plan to avoid all forms of congestion.

At the capital town of Kohima, the state government plans to set up more alternate road like link roads and ring roads to avoid the ever increasing traffic congestion.
