West Bengal govt to rope in consultancy firms

Raja Iyer

Government of India is implementing Rajiv Awas Yojna (RAY) in about 250 cities of India, mostly with a population of over one lakh, in order to create a slum-free India.

Under the scheme, the central government bears 50 percent of the costs of slum redevelopment. It encourages private sector participation in slum redevelopment by providing viability gap funding.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Municipal Affairs department of the West Bengal government plans to rope in some consultancy firms or agencies for setting up 10 city level technical cells (CLTC) under RAY for 48 urban local bodies.
