Minister suggests efficient technology to develop urban infra

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Girija Vyas has called upon Central Public Works Department to meet the challenges and aspirations of a growing economy with efficient technology, transparency and dedication.

Delivering the inaugural address at the 159th anniversary celebrations of CPWD in New Delhi, the minister said, CPWD has made enormous contribution in creating infrastructure from the national capital to the difficult border areas.

She said, sustainable development is both an objective and a challenge and has been the objective of the government. While empathy for environment remains the cornerstone for sustainable development CPWD should strive to conserve natural resources like water with efficient usage.

She said, CPWD did a marvelous job for the Commonwealth Games, building sports infrastructures, flyovers which were game changers for the capital city. Emphasizing the problem of urban waste, she said recycling waste is of utmost importance. The Chief Minister said conservation of power and water have to be our priorities and welcomed the initiatives taken by CPWD in this regard.

Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development Sudhir Krishna said, with the economy growing faster, the challenge is to develop public infrastructure.
