UP gives nod to Rs 900 cr urban development scheme

The Uttar Pradesh government has given financial sanction to its ambitious multi-crore-rupee 'Naya Sawera Nagar Vikas Yojana'. The scheme seeks to upgrade the infrastructural facilities at the local bodies' level. A budget of Rs 900 crore was proposed for making available funds to local bodies for implementation of the scheme. This was Rs 659 crore higher than in 2012-13. The first local body to get a significant amount of fund is Rampur, the constituency of Urban Development Minister, Azam Khan.

The government on July 17 stated that around Rs 82 lakh were sanctioned as the first installment for construction of 104-odd shops near old tehsil bhawan in Rampur. In all, the department of urban development has sanctioned around Rs 12 crore for the project in the first phase. In doing so, the department has laid down strict conditions for utilisation of funds meant to be used in the scheme.

According to the conditions laid by the State government for implementing the scheme, the funds will be provided as interest-free loan. The funds will be allotted in installments on a yearly basis to be utilised accordingly. Likewise, work on the project will be initiated only after technical approval from the designated authority.

The work done under the scheme will be executed and maintained by the respective local bodies, said a government order.
