Vadodara housing scheme beneficiaries await sale deeds

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is aggressively taking up housing schemes for the urban poor, for whom the Gujarat government has also announced its own plans. However, the residents of one such scheme in the city have not got sale deeds for the houses that they booked three decades ago. The land for the project is caught in legal wrangles leading to the delay. The residents of Panchvati in Gorwa had purchased the houses between 1978 and 1980.

The colony was a part of a 15,000 houses scheme under which houses were to be constructed by the civic body at Sama, Tarsali, Old Padra Road and Gorwa. Panchvati at Gorwa that has 320 houses, however, got caught in problems. The owner of the land on which it had come up moved court following a dispute with the VMC. Residents in the colony say they bought houses there and are spearheading representations to get sales deeds. A dispute is said to be emerged between the owner of the land and the VMC and the land was not transferred to the civic body.

VMC officials said while the civic body had paid the sum for procuring the land, the sales deed could not be made in its name due to the suit. The official added that this, however, did not affect the possession of the owners of the houses in any way. Solanki said while they could stay there, with no legal documents there were several legal issues that came up from time to time.
