Centre asked to fund water supply projects in Himachal

Central government received a request from the Lok Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh Pratibha Singh for allotting Rs 184.99 crore towards strengthening water supply in different towns.

Specifically, Singh sought funds for upgrading water supply facilities in Dharamsala, Parwanoo, Rampur, Rewalsar, Sundernagar, Baijnath, Hamirpur, Sujanpur and Jogindernagar towns.

Further, he sought funds for channelising seasonal streams and constructing rainwater harvesting structures in the state capital.

For the channelisation of 67 streams in Shimla, the MP sought Rs 68 crore from Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath.

Pratibha Singh said these streams would be channelised and the water stored for utilising in summer, when the state capital faces acute water shortage.

In order to provide cheap and efficient public transport in the state, Singh sought central assistance for the purchase of 300 mini-buses for 13 towns.

She said 75 mini-buses were plying in Shimla, helping ease traffic jams.
