Increasing of Kavdasa dam height to bring more water to Vasai-Virar

Mumbai's one of the satellite towns Vasai-Virar area will get 32.5 millions cubic metre of water once the height of Kavdasa dam is increased and small dams are constructed at Ghol, Amboli, Chinchore, Urse and Gargaon. Hence the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, which has been facing a severe water crisis for the last couple of years, can expect to get more water soon.

This was disclosed by the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Unlike Mumbai and Navi Municipal Corporations which owns lakes, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has to entirely depend on the State irrigation department for water. Pawar has also asked the irrigation department to complete surveys and check leakages in pipes by October.
