Study on Mumbai-A'bad high-speed train in 18 months

To conduct a detailed feasibility study on a high-speed train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, India and Japan will soon sign an agreement. The study is to take 18 months to complete. Indian Railway Board last week stated that the Prime Ministers of India and Japan have hade earlier decided to co-finance a detailed feasibility study. The pre-feasibility study of the segment has already been done. High-speed rail services have been implemented in Japan, France, China and Germany. The proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail-corridor stretch is expected to cost Rs 63,000 crore, of the same level as the budgeted annual plan for the entire Indian Railways network of over 60,000 km this fiscal. In 2013-13, Indian Railways has budgeted an annual plan of Rs 63,363 crore.
