Kerala gets nod for Rs 948 cr urban projects

In Kerala, 28 urban project proposals worth Rs 948 crore have been permitted by the Union Urban Development Ministry. The proposals were submitted by 15 municipal corporations. The schemes have been sanctioned under the Centrally sponsored Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT). With this, the work on these projects will begin in 15 municipal corporations soon, said the State Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhi Ali in Thiruvananthapuram on December 24. According to the Minister, major projects among the sanctioned ones will be five drinking water projects for which Rs 383 crore have been allotted. Similarly, Rs 190 crore for eight urban development projects, Rs 54 crore for five solid waste management treatment plants, Rs 42 crore for road maintenance, Rs 50 crore for sewage treatment plants and Rs 35 crore for drainage works have been allotted and they all feature under this scheme.
