Thiruvananthapuram city roads improvement project update

The Kerala Public Works Department has announced recently about handing over of roads for development and maintenance under Thiruvananthapuram City Roads Improvement Project (TCRIP) for 15 years. TCRIP detailed project report was prepared by CES (I) Ltd. This project was finalised after extensive consultations with Dr.N.S.Srinivasan, Former Director, NATPAC, and advisor to Government of India in Traffic Planning and Code formulations. The project goals are: 1) Eliminate / reduce traffic congestion using scientific design ensuring the best ride quality, geometric correction ensuring unhindered movement. 2) Ensuring safety and comfort of pedestrians and vehicles through adherence to IRC standard of construction, signage, provision of automated traffic signal systems, proper night street lighting and road markings. 3) To eliminate indiscriminate cutting of roads for laying utility lines by providing large concrete ducts and pipe ducts at every 250 m across the road. Concrete cross duct with inspection chamber. TRDCL is a JVC of IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd (ITNL) and Punj Lloyd Ltd responsible for implementation of TCRIP on build-operate-maintain and transfer (Annuity) model. The scope includes improvement of 43 km of city road in Thiruvananthapuram. Owing to land acquisition issues, the project was divided in three phases. Phase - I has been completed and under operation and maintenance. Phase-II and III work comprising 18.52 km and 9.75 km is on.
