PM lays foundation for 2800 MW nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur Haryana

On 13th January, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of 2800 MW Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) located in the Gorakhpur Village of Fatehabad district of Haryana. On this occasion he was accompanied by Jagannath Pahadia, Governor of Haryana and Haryana CM, Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The phase-I development involves commissioning of two units producing 1400 MWe of electricity. The completion of this phase is targeted by 2020-21. Thereafter second phase execution shall start targeting 2800 MW capacity. India is capable of producing 4800 MW power currently. In the next 10 years aims to produce 27,000 MW of electricity through nuclear route.
