G K Vasan launches National Waterway-4 works covering 37 km
Minister of Shipping G K Vasan has recently launched National Waterways-4 (NW-4) project. The NW-4 covers a total length of 1078 Km consisting of Kakinada-Puducherry canal systems integrated with Godavari and Krishna Rivers. The Centre has decided to take up development of 37 km stretch of the National Waterway-four (NW-4) from Sholinganallur to Kalpakkam in South Buckingham Canal. The terminal construction is planned at Shollinganallur, Mutukkad and Mahabalipuram equipped with facilities for cargo, passenger and tourist vessels. The project comprises dredging and excavation to develop navigational channel, construction of three terminals and navigational locks, replacement of existing bridge at Kelambakkam, and installation of navigational aids. The Government of India has sanctioned over Rs 123 crore for this project. The completion is targeted in two years.
