PWD to award Alappuzha, Kollam bypasses construction contract soon

In January, 2014 the Centre and the Kerala State government have signed an MOU to share Rs. 255.75 crore and Rs. 267.16 crore for Kollam and Alappuzha bypasses respectively. The Central government intends to collect toll from these projects, while State government is against this decision. Kerala PWD has selected bidders for the development of the bypasses. The contract is likely to be awarded soon. NHAI was supposed to implement the construction of Kollam and Alappuzha bypasses as part of the National Highway Development Projects (NHDP) Phase III. The widening works got stuck owing to land acquisition issues. Following this, State government approached Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to take up construction of bypasses as separate project.
