NHAI asks Haryana PWD to maintain Yamunanagar-Panchkula highway

NHAI member (finance) Satish Chandra in a letter to PWD secretary Sanjeev Kaushal has said that the concessionaire of the four laning of Yamunanagar-Panchkula highway project has issued notice to NHAI for closure of the project. The developer had planned to invest Rs 934 crore for widening of this stretch in the next 2-3 years. Infrastructure major Gammon Infrastructure Projects Ltd has walked out of this project citing reasons such as uncertainty in obtaining approvals, non-availability of land and escalation of cost of construction material making the project unviable. NHAI has now asked the state government to take up the task of maintaining the stretch by getting funds from Ministry of road transport and highways. Also the state is advised to expedite wildlife and forest clearances for this stretch besides paying off compensation for land acquisition, so that project can be awarded at the earliest.
