CII report recommends widening of NH in Kerala

The industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Kerala has recommended widening of the national highways in Kerala to ease congestion and ensure safety of road users. The CII said in its report ‘Widening of National Highways in Kerala: Opportunities and Challenges’ that the engineering standards and guidelines provided in the Indian Road Congress for widening of NH prescribes that a Right of Way (RoW) of a minimum 45 metre is considered to be safe, considering the freight movement, current and future growth of the project stretch. CII has cited barriers such as population density, restricted availability of Right of Way, environmental issues and ribbon developments along roadsides as the impediments in widening of national highways in Kerala.
