BMC instructs road contractors to use piped cross-ducting

The BMC has decided to opt for piped cross-ducting to ensure city roads remain in good condition. Till recently, the civic body used to allow cross sectional laying of optical/electricity cables or other utilities beneath the road surface. To maintain road quality, if it is dug up cross-sectionally, the contractors are instructed by the civic body to go for piped cross-ducting for both asphalt and concrete roads. BMC claims that city roads will be monsoon ready by the end of May. The civic body has instructed all contractors under defect liability period (DLP) to repair roads they are working on. These works are in addition to the preventive maintenance works undertaken by BMC at a cost of Rs 28 crore.
