CAG report indicts improper waste management practices adopted by BBMP

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India in its audit on local urban bodies for the year ending on March 31, 2013 has observed absence of a notified policy for solid waste management in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The report has pointed out lack of reliable data about the quantum of waste generated in the Bengaluru city. The report indicates discrepancies in awarding contracts for transporting waste, fictitious payments detected for transfer of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), diversion of funds and other improper practices adopted by BBMP.
