World Bank funded road project to promote road safety in UP

The World Bank funded Uttar Pradesh Core Road Network Development Project aims to upgrade roads and promote road safety. The Government of Uttar Pradesh has applied for financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Uttar Pradesh Core Road Network Development Project to be implemented in three phases, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works, related services and consulting services to be procured under this project. This project is jointly financed by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) as co-financing agency. The project shall include the following components: (a) Works Component – This component will include upgrading/ of selected/high prioritized roads (about 600 Km) ,rehabilitation of about 1300 Km out of the “core road network” ,two nos. major bridges on a programmatic approach in first phase through various innovative contracting, financing and maintenance models to strengthen asset management of core road network of UP state. (b) Road Safety Component - This component would focus on enhancing Road Safety situation in the state. (c) Road Sector and Institutional Reforms Component. The Public Works Department in collaboration with the Police and Transport Department would work together to make roads safer for the motorist on five state highways in the first phase of the project. Quick response team would reach out to accident victims in minimum time.
