Civil aviation ministry considers amending 150-km restriction clause for second airport

The Civil Aviation ministry is considering to amend the policy of restricting the construction of second airport within 150-km radius of an existing one to 100-km radius. This would pave the way for development of multiple airports for cities in the future. The existing policy states that the airport operators/developers will have to be on board in matters of deciding the second airport in the 150-km radius. Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju has issued directives to have a public-private model in place for new airports development addressing the concerns of all the stakeholders. He also asked the authorities to ensure that big airports planned for the future should have three terminals catering to full service airlines, budget carriers and business jets.
