Tamil Nadu to come up with two water desalination projects for Chennai

The Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Board led by the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at a recently held meeting approved the proposal to set up two large sea water desalination projects to the South of Chennai. The aims is to ensure drinking water supply to the Chennai city. One of these plants will come up at Perur with a capacity of 400 million litre a day. The project is estimated to cost Rs 4,070 crore. The second plant will come up Nemmeli with 150 MLD capacity costing Rs 1,371 crore. These projects will be taken up on Design-Build-Operate (DBO) basis.
