Posco teams up with Uttam Galva
South Korean steel giant Posco has become the third big foreign company after General Motors and Foxconn to announce a billion-dollar-plus investment plan in Maharashtra, boosting the western Indian state´s attempts to regain its status as the country´s premier investment destination. Posco will set up a steel plant along with the Uttam Galva group, a company owned by the Miglani family. Galva is also a partner of global steel giant Arcelor Mittal and the two operate a steel plant in the state. The proposed project will produce hot rolled coils, largely used in the automobile industry, and will sport a new technology that can convert low-grade iron ore into steel.
