We are ready for every application in mining and construction

Vinod Aggarwal,CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles

Gone are the days of recession in the commercial vehicle industry, believes Aggarwal, as he sees green shoots in the construction and mining sectors. Catering to this growth, the company recently launched Pro 8031XM tipper and Pro 6025T box body vehicles. He shares more on these and the company´s accomplishments.

In the past seven-and-a-half years, we have done synergistic work jointly with Volvo Group. Our topline has more than doubled. Starting with Rs 2,500 crore in 2009, we are pacing this year to end at Rs 6,900 crore with significant increase in market shares in all segments:

Light and medium-duty trucks (5 to 15 tonne): 33 per cent market share in 2015 from 26.7 per cent in 2009.

  • Bus market share: 15 per cent in 2015 from 5.7 per cent in 2009.
  • Heavy-duty market share: 3.6 per cent in 2015 from 1 per cent in 2009.
  • In Volvo Trucks, we have maintained a high market share of 62 per cent in the high-end mining segment.
  • Market in exports from India: 13 per cent in 2015 from 10.8 per cent in 2009. We utilised the three-year recession period to our advantage by executing strategic projects without compromising on investments. The almost entire investment of Rs 2,700 crore in the past five years has been made from internal accruals and we continue to be a debt-free company with a strong balance sheet.

Launch for the mining and construction sector:

VECV recently launched two products to cater to the ever-growing demand of the sector. Eicher Pro 8031XM is appropriate for both flat roads or gradients and long leads or short leads. The product is equipped with a fuel-efficient driveline, robust chassis, advanced telematics and world-class cabin. Eicher Pro 6025T is designed for road construction, infrastructure projects, port transportation, etc. With stunning efficiency and superior uptime, it features a best-in-class cabin for enhanced driver efficiency and first-in-industry intelligent systems.

The mining sector and VECV´s growth plans: Coupled with the start of production by new coal blocks, coal production in India can go up to 1.5 billion tonne and we will be able to meet all our requirements of coal from domestic production. Also, other mining segments are likely to start growing and this augurs well for mining trucks. VECV is well poised to take advantage of this boom in the mining segment. The company is also ready to take full benefit of the likely boom in the construction segment, specifically road construction, metro lines, smart cities, industrial corridors and private ports.

VECV´s plans to gear up: We have the widest engine HP rating with Volvo Trucks in the range of 400 HP to 520 HP and Eicher in the range of 180 to 330 HP. VECV has the expertise and ability to offer customised solutions in combination with our flexibility and speed.

Plans for 2016: We will continue to launch new models in both the heavy-duty and medium-duty ranges and meet Bharat Stage IV norms.
