Nation´s infra sector gets major Japanese boost

India´s infrastructure - sectors such as roads, metro rail, industrial corridor, shipping and urban development - are set to get a boost with Japan committing to accelerate development in these key areas. Japanese PM Shinzo Abe kept his promise made to PM Narendra Modi of investments of $33.8 billion in infrastructure in India over the next five years through its overseas development assistance programme (ODA), when he expressed an intention to provide ODA for improving road connectivity in north-east India, peripheral ring road around Bengaluru and irrigation projects in Jharkhand. Shipping will also get an impetus with assistance for the Mumbai Trans Harbour link and modernisation of ship recycling yards in Gujarat.

A joint statement by the two PMs has set forth the road map for partnering India to boost its infrastructure.
