Rel Energy proposes average 5.26percentage tariff hike in 2016-17

Consumers in Mumbai's suburban areas are likely to see a slight increase in power tariff in the coming fiscal. Reliance Energy, which supplies electricity in these parts, is proposing an average hike of 5.26 per cent in power tariff across all categories. For residential users, which forms the bulk of its consumers, Reliance Energy has proposed an average increase of seven per cent in tariff for 2016-17, a company official said. The company has proposed a power tariff hike till 2019-20 to recover a cumulative revenue gap of previous years worth Rs.1,325.67 crore. It has proposed to do so in a staggered manner - from a 5.26 per cent average hike in 2016-17 to a 2.35 per cent average increase in 2019-20 - so as not to heavily impact consumers. The company has made a tariff petition to the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission.
