State cement units may be revived to boost infra and curb cartels

In a move by the government that could substantially bring down construction costs for roads and housing, giving the infrastructure sector the push it needs -' state-run cement factories across the country may be revived. The aim is to bring down the cost of cement to make the projects financially more viable. This could be a feasible step to counter private cement firms over the fear of cartelisation in the sector. Earlier, CREDAI had accused some cement makers of cartelisation, and reported the same to the CCI.
