Cement demand to rise 6 per cent in FY17
Cement demand is likely to increase 6 per cent this fiscal from 5 per cent in 2015-16 on the back of better monsoons and the government focus on developing infrastructure, according to rating agency ICRA. The expansion is also likely to lead to better prices, especially in the northern and eastern states, which are seeing a good offtake of the key building material. The pick-up in the infrastructure segment will be primarily in sectors such as roads and housing during the next one year. Besides, there is a likelihood of a recovery in the rural demand from the second half of fiscal 2016-17, given the expectations of a better monsoon.
