The hangover of an impending recession is over. Growth is back. A growth in GDP is likely to reduce the fiscal deficit. The country's per capita income will see a surge of 9 per cent during the current financial year. The CSO estimates a growth of 7.2% for 2009-10 on the back of a robust “mining & quarrying” growth of 8.7% against 1.6% in the previous year, “construction” growth of 6.5% against 5.9%, “electricity, gas & water supply” growth of 8.2% against 3.9%, “manufacturing” growth of 8.9% against 3.2% and “Transport & Communications” of 8.3% against 7.6%. India needs to step up its investment in infrastructure to keep up its growth galloping to reach a target of over 10%.

The much touted $ 500 billion plus investment in the coming five years is seeing its definition on paper and there is a movement to tackle the challenges. Recent examples of Dubai and then Greece have demonstrated that growth ought to be sustainable. It is a given that infrastructure is enabling growth in our country and we have ample case studies establishing its rationale and it is also fairly well established that Public Private Partnerships are the way to go forward. Yet there are hurdles and challenges and there are new solutions and innovations to debate and discuss.

The 3rd Infrastructure Today International Conference will facilitate and encourage dialogue to enable thought & consequent action to move into an orbit of fresh concepts and, solutions.
