SAIL to set up cement plant
Steel Authority of India, in a joint venture with Jayprakash
Associates, will set up a two mn tonne capacity cement manufacturing
plant in Bhilai. SAIL will hold 74 per cent in the plant,
to be built with an estimated investment of Rs 600 crore,
while Jayprakash Associates will hold the remaining 26 per
cent. The plant will use slag generated at the blast furnace
in Bhilai Steel Plant and idle assets of Satna limestone mines
and will be built in 37 months.

Anil Ambani to set up cement unit in Madhya Pradesh
The Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group is setting up a 20
mn tonne cement unit in Madhya Pradesh on 1,306 acre allotted
by the state government in Satna. The fly ash for the unit
will be generated by the company’s proposed thermal
plant.

Ambuja Cements plans Rs 3,500 crore capacity expansion
Ambuja Cements is embarking on a seven mn tonne expansion
drive, with an investment of Rs 3,500 crore, over a period
of two years. The company is expanding its capacity in the
Rauri and Bhatapara plants by setting up new lines of 7,000
tonne per day clinker production in each. It also plans to
set up a 33 MW captive power generation plant
in Bhatapara and grow its topline by 50 per cent once the
expanded capacity runs full steam. The expansion will take
the total production of the company to 25 mn tonne.

ACC Cement to build new clinker line
ACC Cement will establish a new clinker line of capacity 7,000
tpd along with a 25 MW captive power plant at Chanda in Maharashtra.
The company will invest Rs 1,450 crore in the project, that
will be completed in 2010.

Lafarge to double production capacity
Lafarge has announced a project to double the production capacity
of its Sonadih plant in Raipur by three mn tonne. The project
to be developed in two phases will be executed over a period
of five years. Phase I of the project, to be completed within
two years, with an investment of around Rs 812 crore, will
involve construction of a second production line at Sonadih
plant and a million tonne grinding station in West Bengal,
while Phase II comprises addition of two mn tonne of additional
grinding capacity to serve the main Eastern markets.

Cement industry to raise capacity by 118 mn tonne
The cement industry is planning to increase its capacity from
180 mn tonne to 298 mn tonne by 2012. The industry department
is coordinating with the respective state governments to remove
the bottlenecks, especially with regard to environmental clearances,
mining leases and infrastructure development.
MHIL to expand capacity
Hyderabad-based My Home Indust-ries Ltd (MHIL) has formed
a joint venture with the Dublin-based CRH Group to expand
its capacity by three metric tonne through Greenfield projects
in Guntur district. It will also look at new acquisitions.
The expansion will require an investment of Rs 1, 500 crore,
which will be raised through internal accruals and debt. The
two companies will hold equal stakes in the JV.
