President Bush visits Volvo
Group expo
US President George W. Bush visited the recent Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, where seven Volvo Group trucks - six Volvo trucks and one Mack truck - each capable of operating on different renewable fuels, were presented. Volvo Group CEO, Leif Johansson introduced the president to the trucks that can be driven without any net contribution of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.

"Expanding use of ethanol and biodiesel requires getting more cars on the road that use these alternative fuels. We expect the private sector to respond," Bush said.
"Volvo has the technology and resources for carbon-dioxide-neutral transport, but we cannot do it alone. By participating in this conference we have had the opportunity to show the American President and the public that Volvo is doing all it can to move the technological future one-step closer." Johansson said.

The Volvo Group is also participating in an environmental agreement developed by the American and Swedish governments. The programme aims at reducing the use of fossil fuels through cooperative projects in the areas of energy and automotive development.

ZF introduces Transmission ECOMIX II
The new ECOMIX II transmission ranges from ZF are highly compact and come with an integrated radial piston motor. They are loaded with many technical advantages; for example, the model CML 10, in comparison to its previous PLM 9, is approximately 20 per cent lighter and 50 per cent shorter. The
tough bearing concept has significantly increased the output-bearing strength, making it suitable for aggressive off-
road operations. The use of patented Ealstomers from ZF Boge Elastmetall allow an increase of the axial runout at drum bottom and an increase of misalignment of the drum. With the new bearing concept, the installation angle is no longer dependent on drum size and drum filling. An installation angle up to 20 degree is always possible.

Husco begins production
Husco International, the leading global supplier of hydraulic valves for backhoe loaders with a 60 per cent market share, has identified India as its second engineering R&D location outside the US.

The company produces hydraulic and electrohydraulic controls for a wide variety of mining and construction equipment, and other industrial vehicles like forklift trucks. In India, Husco is the 100 per cent supplier to JCB for its backhoe loaders, which translates into a share of 80 per cent of the backhoe market. Its new plant in Talegaon near Pune presently assembles 6,600 and 5,000-series valves that control the loader and backhoe actuation, and there are plans to make several other models.
