A Spectacular Show

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 and the co-located IFPE 2008, held from March 11 to March 15 in Las Vegas, brought the best of the industry together. And CW was there!

For anybody connected in any way to the construction industry, this was the place to be. Leaders of the construction, construction materials and power transmission industries converged at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 and the co-located IFPE 2008 from March 11 to March 15, 2008, at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in Las Vegas, USA. This triennial event set records this time round for attendance, exhibit space and number of exhibiting companies - over 144,600 industry professionals from around the world made their presence felt. Here's the buzz: CW had a stall at this spectacular gathering, which was keenly attended by visitors keeping in view India's status as a fast-growing economy, and the tremendous growth potential of its construction equipment industry. In fact, CW was the sole media representative from India and the Middle East.
Now for the show. CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 featured more than 2.28 million net sq ft (211,966 net sq m) of exhibition space, with 2,182 exhibitors - 21 per cent larger than the last show held in 2005. International attendance increased by more than 50 per cent from the Latin American and Caribbean marketplace, and doubled from China, India and Turkey. There were also significant increases from Canada, Australia, Russia and the Middle East. International visitors to the shows hailed from more than 130 countries. Further, there were more than 60 official international customer delegations organised by the US Department of Commerce as well as in-country trade associations and related groups.

CONEXPO also featured a new ‘Safety Zone’ of exhibits and demonstrations from industry and government groups, including the US Occupational Safety and Health Admi-nistration, Mine Safety and Health Administration, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Aerial Work Platform Training/International Powered Access Federation. The seminar programme offered 130 sessions, including a special seminar on best practices for small fleet management. What’s more, CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 was the site of the first ever Construction Challenge competition, initiated by show organiser Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). The creative problem-solving competition is aimed at drawing young people to a career in construction, while calling attention to industry workforce shortages and infrastructure renewal needs. A fantastic idea! The next edition of this event will be held at the same venue from March 22 to 26, 2011. CW is looking forward to a bigger presence there.
