Zak Doors & Windows Expo gets good response
The fourth edition of Zak Doors & Windows Expo, which
was held in Mumbai recently, had over 5,000 trade visitors
consisting of top stalwarts from the industry and also had
foreign exhibitors. uPVC manufacturers participated in a major
way.
The display profile included wooden, glass, PVC, uPVC, aluminum,
frameless, prefabricated ready to fit doors and windows, partitions,
storing systems, curtain walls, shutters, fire -rated doors,
besides machines to set up coating and fabricating units,
as also a wide range of accessories.
Amongst the high-profile visitors, architect Hafeez Contractor,
said, “It was really interesting to see so many advances,
especially in the field of uPVC like the lift and shift doors
and windows and uPVC profiles with a wood finish.”
There was also a seminar on Energy Saving uPVC Windows conducted
by Reliance Industries Ltd. The fifth edition of Zak Doors
& Windows will be held in conjunction with Zak Glass Technology
India 2008 from December 5 to 7, 2008 in New Delhi.
Beau Lintereur is VP, Power Generation Business, Cummins
Beau Lintereur has been appointed as Vice President of the
Power Generation Business unit of Cummins India Ltd. He has
been associated with Cummins for over 10 years and has been
responsible for driving several initiatives in the company.
Lintereur has moved to Pune from China to take charge of his
current responsibility, which primarily involves driving profitable
growth and market leadership of the company’s power
generation business in India.
He is a BS in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from
Purdue University and a MS in the same field from MIT. In
his current role, Lintereur succeeds Rampraveen Swaminathan,
who moves on to become Executive Director, Power Electronics
Business, Cummins Power Generation in Fridley, USA.
DuPont signs MoU with TERI
DuPont signed an MoU with TERI to agree on some principles
of energy and moisture management that should be recommended
in building envelopes. The MoU was signed by Dr Pachauri,
Director General, TERI and Kalsi, Country President, DuPont
India.
In the MoU, TERI and DuPont agreed on the point that the key
to avoiding moisture problems is to manage the balance between
wetting and drying; protect against wetting and promote drying.
The building science experts at TERI agree that in general,
the practice of using vapour barriers along with insulation
should be discouraged in almost all parts of India.
Mahindra World City gets architecture and design awards
The planners and architects of Mahindra World City, New Chennai,
bagged two international awards from the American Society
of Landscape Architects (ASLA) - Award of Excellence in the
category of Planning, Research and Communications by the St.
Louis Chapter of ASLA in 2007 and Award of Excellence in the
category of Planning by the Central States Conference of ASLA
in 2008. The residential and social amenities zone at Mahindra
World City was designed by HOK, USA.
Arun Nanda, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd,
said, “We at Mahindra believe in creating work and life
spaces that are world-class and seamlessly integrate with
the natural surroundings they are set in. Mahindra World City,
New Chennai, is a clear demonstration of this and we are pleased

IBC organises seminar on trends in high-rise buildings
Indian Buildings Congress organised a seminar on ‘Recent
Trends in High Rise Buildings’ in New Delhi recently.
The event was inaugurated by S Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister
for Urban Development.
The seminar highlighted the fact that the construction of
high-rise buildings leads to traffic congestion in addition
to problems regarding electric and water supply and sewerage
disposal. All these problems could be mitigated by appropriate
planning and the seminar proposed various recommendations
like recycling concrete, optimising use of concrete pumping,
precast construction and large mobile cranes and effective
water management among others.
ICON and III held in Noida
The fourth edition of India International Construction &
Contracting Exhibition (ICON) and Interiors International
India (III), along with the co-located Intelligent Skins India
(ISI) and the third Edition of Hospitality International India
(HII) were held in Greater Noida recently. These three-day
events which had 130 exhibitors from 18 countries attracted
4,836 trade visitors.
An estimated $ 64.75 mn worth of business was transacted during
the exhibition. Sponsored by Parryware ROCA, the exhibition
also had an annual day conference of the Institute of Indian
Interior Designers (IIID) and a seminar by the Indian Association
of Structural Engineers (IAStructE).
The organisers of the events Expomedia Events India announced
that the fifth edition of III and ICON, and the second edition
of ISI will be a part of India Construction & Interiors
Week (IC & IW) from 2009 onwards. The event will also
have a new section Conmec - focused on construction equipment
and another section Bathroom, Stonex & Ceramex - focused
on bathrooms, flooring and ceramic products. IC & IW will
take place from February 13 to 15, 2009 in Greater Noida.
The regional edition of IC & IW will be held in Chennai
from September 25 to 27, 2009.
Roof & Cladding India was a grand success
Asia’s largest roofing, cladding and allied technology
event - Roof & Cladding India 2008 - which was
held in Chennai recently, witnessed participation from over
90 national and international companies. The event showcased
the latest in roofing systems, architectural cladding, façade
engineering, metal building systems, pre-engineered buildings,
spaceframe structures, skylight & domes, waterproofing,
insulation, tensile membranes and roofing machinery.
The three-day expo attracted over 2,500 visitors and a major
highlight of the event was the presence of almost all leading
pre-engineered building (PEB) manufacturers in the country.
The event also featured leading steel companies showcasing
colour coated steels and coils, galvanised coils and sheets,
CR coils etc. Union Steel from Korea also launched their product
range for the first time in India at this event.
Unitech Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, the organisers of the event,
announced that the next edition - Roof & Cladding India
2009 will be held
at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, during April 23 -

Philippe Clover appointed President of QIEL
Quippo Infrastructure Equipment Ltd (QIEL) has appointed Philippe
Clover as the President of the
company. A Master in Business Admi-nistration from University
of Paris IX Dauphine and University of Caen, he collates industry
expertise of over 29 years. His experience in project management
and business development supplement his strategic initiatives
to minimise risks and maximise results.
He began his career in Westin-ghouse Electric, Minneapolis,
US in 1979. He has been a core part of many rental companies
such as TTE, Ltd in UK, Fraikin S.A. and Mattei Car
Rental in France. In 1991 he joined the Equipment Rental Division
of Hertz Corporation in France as the Oper-ations Director.
Thereafter he rose to the level of visionary member of the
board of directors, Hertz France in 1997.
Tapan Kumar Mitra appointed SVP of Supreme Infrastructure
Supreme Infrastructure India Ltd has appointed Tapan Kumar
Mitra as Senior Vice President. Mitra has a rich experience
spanning over three decades. He formerly worked as Dy General
Manager with Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. A civil engineer
by qualification, his core competencies are in handling large
scale projects of thermal power plants, gas base power plants,
railway projects, roads, river bridges and flyover projects.
The company has also appointed Anjan Kumar Mukherjee as Senior
General Manager, who was earlier the Senior Project Manager
of Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. Rahul Deshmukh has been appointed
as Business Development & Planning Manager and Mahesh
Shejwal as Assistant General Manager of the company.
Schindler training facility launched in Mumbai
The Head of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Economic
Affairs, Doris Leuthard, inaugurated a dedicated training
facility in Mumbai for employees of the Schindler Group. Also
present at the inauguration was Dr Chris Lindenmeyer, who
is responsible for Schindler’s operations in India,
Russia, the Middle East and Africa (EMIA).
The facility is to train Schindler’s engineers in the
installation of its best-selling global range of elevators
-- the Schindler 3300 and the Schindler 5300 - for mid-rise
residential and commercial buildings in India. Training will
be in line with the group’s global quality standards.
The company has launched in India its best-selling range of
elevators - the Schindler 3300 and the Schindler 5300 - for
mid-rise residential a nd commercial buildings. These mobility
solutions are known for their intelligent innovations, superior
quality, tasteful design and impressive spaciousness and silence.
These elevators have automatic evacuation as a
standard feature.
India Infrastructure Report 2008 launched
The India Infrastructure Report 2008: Business Models of the
Future was launched by Neelam Deo, Consul General, Consulate
General of India, New York at the India Infrastructure Investors’
forum 2008 held in New York recently.
The current report’s focus on PPP growth models of the
future in power, telecom, transport, commercial and urban
infrastructure, and social infrastructure is well timed. The
models highlight global best practices in PPP in these sectors
with successful case studies from India and abroad.
The IIR is a collaborative effort of academics, professionals
having know-ledge of developing infrastructure projects and
policy makers, under the aegis of 3iNetwork - a network managed
by Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC), Indian
Institute of Management, Ahmed-abad (IIM-A) and the Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K).
